Frequently Asked Questions
Do you pick up printers and scanners?
No. We no longer pick up printers and scanners. The recycling facility we utilize charges us a significant fee for printers and scanners. We cannot absorb the fee on your behelf, and we believe it is not fair to pass on the fee plus handling and storage costs to you. We suggest that you bring your printers and scanners to your local Best Buy store for recycling — last we checked they have no fee.
Do I need to remove my computer hard drives?
No. All hard drives and solid state drives will be dismantled and destroyed by shredding, cutting and/or drilling. This ensures the data on your device cannot be recovered. You can erase or remove any hard drives yourself prior to pickup if you like.
Do I need to wipe or erase my hard drives?
This is optional. We do not wipe or erase hard drives when we receive them. Hard drives and solid state drives (SSDs) are dismantled and destroyed by shredding, cutting, defacing and/or drilling during processing. If you need your data completely wiped then you can do that before pickup.
How do you recycle electronics?
We collect electronics and transport them to a certified e-waste recycling facility. The recycling facility dismantles and separates them into components including metal, plastic, circuit boards, CPUs, motors, wires, batteries, etc. Each component is then recycled into the correct waste stream so it can be made into new products. This substiantially reduces environmental impacts and toxic materials such as mercury, lead and other heavy metals that can end up in landfills.
Electronics that are in working condition, not obsolete and do not contain confidential data are repurposed where possible. This gives them a “second life” and avoids destroying them and wasting energy.
Do you pay for electronics?
No. We do not pay for electronic e-waste. We collect and recycle unused electronics that clutter homes and businesses. We do free pickups as a courtesy (it costs us time and money), and we pay for the time and space to transport them for recycling. We recoup our costs later after we deliver them back into the manufacturing stream.
Do you pick up at businesses?
Yes. We pick up electronics from businesses in Folsom, El Dorado Hills, Granite Bay, Roseville, Orangevale and Fair Oaks.
Do you have a limit on the number of items?
No. We do not have a limit on the number of individual items. However, each item must be less than 36 inches (we dismantle server cabinets at your location before taking them away). The total load must be greater than 10 pounds.
Can I get a donation receipt?
We provide pickup receipts upon request. However, eWasteGone is not a non-profit organization so your e-waste is not considered a donation for tax purposes. If you keep an inventory of your electronic devices for your business, then you may be able to claim a tax writeoff after you dispose of them.
Where are you located?
We are located in Folsom, CA. We also maintain a secure storage facility in Folsom.
